announcement traffic indication message (ATIM)

Announcement Traffic Indication Message (ATIM), also called Ad-hoc-Traffic Indication Message, is a Traffic Indication Message (TIM) used in WLANs according to 802.11 to notify peers

of an upcoming data transfer. The ATIM message informs peers that frames exist and are cached. The ATIM message is transmitted between wireless stations, and prevents wireless stations from entering power-save mode. The ATIM message is sent out with other control messages from the peer that wants to enable data transfer. The transmission takes place in the ATIM window at the beginning of the beacon period.
