analog temperature compensated crystal oscillator (ATCXO)

An Analog Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (ATCXO) is a temperature compensated crystal oscillator, Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator( TCXO), in which the temperature is controlled analogously.

For this purpose, the temperature is measured at regular intervals and the analogvoltage obtained from the deviations is fed to the capacitance diode in the crystal oscillator, which slightly readjusts the frequency. Algorithms in which various physical and electrical properties are implemented go into the readjustment voltage. Mathematically, corresponding models can be emulated with software tools such as SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination).

ATCXOs can be used to achieve frequencies with stability and accuracy values well below 1 ppm. Corresponding oscillators are used in low-cost electronic products and in mobile radio devices.
