alert

  1. In networks, an alarm is a visual or acoustic signal that is triggered when an event has exceeded an attribute for alarm triggering. Such an event can be temporary or permanent. Typically, it is sent when an error or a critical situation has occurred in the network. The alarm signal sent from the agent to the network management system makes the system administrator aware of the event and is documented.
  2. Alarms are also used on threads to interrupt processes to perform other tasks.
