advanced connectivity system (wiring) (ACS)
IBM's cabling systemACS (Advanced Connectivity System) is a further development of IBM's cabling system IVS. ACS is based on an integrated concept, from telephony to high-speed data transmission with frequencies of up to 600 MHz
For the basic cabling structure, ACS relies on symmetrical cables including the corresponding connectors. The product series, a distinction is made between three, the type designations are identified with an additional "A":
STP/A (STP advanced) uses a 150-ohm STP cable (S/STP) in combination with the "enhanced" IBM data connector. This combination is designed for frequencies up to 600 MHz, but is not approved for telephony.
FTP/A (FTP advanced) a 100-ohm S/ UTP or -S/STP cable with foil shielding (F stands for foilshielded) and shielded RJ45 connector. This product is designed for frequency ranges up to 100 MHz
UTP/A (UTP advanced) a 100 ohm S/UTP or -S/STP cable with unshielded RJ45 connector. The frequency range of 100 MHz corresponds to that of the FTP/A system, but the UTP/A system can only be used for data rates up to 20 Mbps. Only shielded versions are used as junction boxes at ACS.
