advanced business application programming (SAP) (ABAP)

Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP) is a programming language developed by SAP- AG as a development language for the business software R/2 and R/3. ABAP is a procedural, event-driven programming language that is primarily used for processing tables and events. Sections are defined in the program and executed when a certain event occurs.

In SAP systems, tables form the basic data structure. A distinction is made between internal tables, which only exist temporarily during the ABAP program, and external tables. The latter are stored on the hard disk and are located in the central information source, the Data Dictionary, which also contains all programs and data models. ABAP communicates with the associated database management system of the external database of the graphical user interface.

ABAP programs generate reports for the prepared data and dynamic programs for the graphical user interface.
