adaptive packet assembly (APA)

Adaptive Packet Assembly (APA) is a method with which the data packet length is continuously adapted to the quality of the transmission path.

If the line quality is poor, the APA method reduces the packet length so that not too many data packets have to be retransmitted due to error messages. If the line quality is good, the data packet length is increased. Continuous APA adaptation improves the data throughput for packet-oriented data transmission. The procedure is used Microcom Networking Protocol( MNP) at MNP4.
