adaptive delta modulation (ADM)

Adaptive delta modulation (ADM) is a digital modulation method based on the comparator principle.

The difference between the analog signal and an estimated comparison signal is fed to the comparator. The advantage lies in the higher dynamic range that this method offers at the same digital resolution compared to known A/D converters. In contrast to delta modulation, the ADM method adapts the step height to the signal waveform.
