Inautomotive technology, there is an increasing trend toward advanced driver assistance systems ( ADAS). This includes Adaptive Cruise Control( ACC), which regulates speed depending on traffic volume and the vehicle environment.
ACC systems monitor the speed and distance of vehicles ahead and control the vehicle's acceleration and braking behavior by warning of a collision with Forward Collision Warning( FCW) and initiating braking with Forward Collision Mitigation( FCM). In addition, the ACC system shows the driver the driving environment, which it detects using laser scanners or radar systems. For this purpose, optical sensors, ultrasonic sensors and radar sensors scan the surroundings and calculate a realistic image of the environment from the various sensor values. In the early years, the 77 GHz band was preferred for radar technology; in the meantime, systems in the 24 GHz band have also become established.
Other systems, sensors and actuators already present in the vehicle are also integrated into an ACC system. These include engine and transmission control and electrically controllable brake systems. All these components and systems often communicate via a CAN bus.
