active movie
Active Movie is Microsoft's software interface for streaming media and digital video. Active Movie supports common compression formats with its codecs, but also MPEG and Quicktime.
ActiveMovie is based on a 32-bit architecture and can be seen as a successor technology for the Media Control Interface( MCI) and Video for Windows( VFW). This multimedia architecture can be used for computer games, CD-ROMs and the Internet and is part of Internet Explorer.
Functionally, Active Movie uses filtering techniques to fetch data from memory, decode it in codecs, and render it into Audio Video Interleave( AVI) using rendering.
