Active Desktop is a component of Microsoft's Active Platform for distributed web-based processing of HTML pages and other web formats.

With Active Desktop, the user can develop scripts using JavaScript, VBScript, Visual Basic and ActiveX, regardless of the programming language, and has access to local and remote data. Active Desktop has a strong link betweenweb browsers and the operating system and is included in Internet Explorer and Windows.

It allows the user to directly access specific web pages on the desktop from the Windows interface and regenerate links automatically.
