accounting management (AM)

Accounting Management (AM) is a function of OSI Management and Fault, Configuration, Account, Performance, and Security Management (FCAPS) that collects accounting information about system usage. The accounting information indicates who used which network resource, when, and for what period of time.

This data can be used to allocate the cost of network and service usage on a per-user basis. Application examples for billing management are billing and rating functions. Billing management is also used in telecommunications networks. This management function involves cost allocation to users, user account management, user statistics, and billing.
