abnormal end (Abend)
Abnormal termination, Abnormal End (ABEND), is the message from an operating system that results in an immediate termination of a program or transmission.
The Abnormal End message can be triggered by a computer or a network and is based on system or program errors.
Severe crashes and abnormal terminations are displayed on a blue background. This display is therefore also called a bluescreen or bluescreen of death( BSOD). The name ABEND was derived from an error message in the IBM Systems 360.
