The ZIP file format is a compression method with which texts and graphics
can be compressed and archived. It is characterized by an enormous compression rate, works with lossless compression and is used for prior data reduction when transferring large files. The compression of the files is done with the programPKZIP, which works with the LZW algorithm and achieves compression rates of well over 90%, depending on the file structure. For decompression
the accompanying program PKUNZIP is required.
