Windows open service architecture (WOSA)

Windows Open ServiceArchitecture

(WOSA) is Microsoft's design for networked environments. WOSA provides a standard interface for functionally identical system services. For example, an application developer need only use a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) to support any mail system service, and the MAPI automatically converts the system calls to the specific syntax of the particular mail product. In this respect, WOSA is the continuation of Microsoft's Windows philosophy, which is intended to relieve developers as far as possible of the need to adapt their products to special hardware properties or software interfaces.
