Windows image acquisition (WIA)

WindowsImage Acquisition (WIA) is a driver software and application programming interface( API) developed by Microsoft for image acquisition and image processing, primarily of fixed images.

WIA is similar to TWAIN (Toolkit Without An Important Name), but unlike TWAIN, it is based at the Windows operating system level and is part of the operating system from Windows 2000 onwards. It supports data exchange between peripheral devices such as digital cameras, scanners or video cameras with graphics programs.

The WIA API was developed for programming in the C++ndC++ programming languages, although programmers should be familiar with the Windows Graphical User Interface( GUI) and the Component Object Model( COM).
