V.92

V.92 was adopted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in July 2000 and allows faster connection setup compared to V.90.

The downstream transmission rate is 56 kbit/s, the upstream speed has been increased by about 40 percent to 48 kbit/s compared to V.90. With the "Quick-Connect" feature, the time required to establish a connection(handshake) can be more than halved. The "Modem-on-Hold" feature is designed to park data connections during an incoming call.

The use of the V.92 features requires V.92 support on the part of the Internet Service Provider (ISP).
