V.92
V.92 was adopted by the International Telecommunication Union(ITU) in July 2000 and allows faster connection setup than V.90.
The downstream transmission rate is 56 kbit/s, while the upstream speed has been increased by around 40 percent to 48 kbit/s compared with V.90. With the "Quick-Connect" feature, the time required to establish a connection ( handshake) can be more than halved. The " Modem-on-Hold" feature is designed to park data connections during an incoming call.
Use of the V.92 features requires V.92 support on the part of the Internet Service Provider( ISP).
