URM connector
The URM(You Are Modular) connector system is a modular connector system for gradient and single mode fibers developed by Euromicron. The URM system is a multi-fiber system that is characterized by its high packing density. In this system, 96 fibers are housed on one height unit( RU) in a 12-way SC duplex patch panel.
Connectors are available in duplex and multiple duplex, 2-way, 4-way and 8-way, operating in the appropriate couplers.
The URM connector body is plastic and has a 1.25 mm diameter ceramic ferrule. The characteristic insertion loss is typically 0.15 dB. This extremely low value is achieved by the individually spring loaded ceramic ferrules. The return loss is >50 dB, with APC(Angle Polished Convex) coupling>60 dB. This FO connector with push-pull locking is designed for about 1,000 mating cycles.
The URM connector is used in data centers with 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 40 Gigabit Ethernet with 4x10 Gbps and 100 Gigabit Ethernet with 4x25 Gbps. It is possible to directly adapt the MPO connector to 8-way URM connectors for 40 Gbit/s applications.
