UMTS mobile phone

Due to the performance spectrum of UMTS with the significantly increased data transfer ratescompared to the other mobile communications services such as High Speed Circuit Switched Data( HSCSD) and General Packet Radio Service( GPRS), the areas of application for UMTS cell phones, the user equipment, are directed towards visual communication: MultimediaMessaging Service( MMS) with video telephony and streaming media of audio and video clips.

Accordingly, UMTS cell phones are equipped with video cameras and a small color display. Due to the extremely compact design of cell phones, the built-in cameras cannot be equipped with conventional optical lenses because there is no space for them. Therefore, cell phone cameras have small microlenses or liquid lenses whose focusing is done with electrowetting, a technique with which liquid droplets can be deformed.
