Toshiba link (TOSlink)
TOSlink takes its name from Toshiba, who developed Toslink for digital audio.
Toslink is used as an optical transmission cable with the rectangular Toslink connectors in the connection technology of audio devices with Sony/Philips Digital Interface (S/PDIF). In thesimplex version, the Toslink connector is an F05 connector and in the duplex version it is an F07 connector.
The data rate reaches up to 20 Mbit/s. The Toslink cable uses a pure plastic fiber with a diameter of 1 mm. The advantage of optical transmission is the lower susceptibility to interference and the level neutrality: No hum loops can occur due to faulty grounding.
