Tizen

Tizen is a smartphone operating system from the Linux Foundation and the Linux Mobile Foundation (LiMo). In April 2012, the platform-independent and portable Tizen 1.0 was released, which had been developed under the codename Larkspur. As a free operating system based on the Linux distribution and Debian, Tizen is suitable for use in smartphones, tablets and netbooks as well as for the infotainment systems of cars or TV sets.

Like Jolla, a project of the spin-off of the same name by former Nokia employees, Tizen is also a continuation of the smartphone operating system MeeGo, a union of Maemo and Moblin from 2010, which has not been supported by Nokia since September 2011.

The developer kit for Tizen 1.0 Larkspur includes a browser-based simulator for the Tizen application programming interfaces( API) for testing and debugging web applications, as well as simulating running applications on different device profiles.

An emulator works with Hardware Acceleration Manager for Windows from Intel and OpenGL acceleration for Linux. On the web, the specifications are supported by the World Wide Web Consortium(W3C) and HTML5, for location-based services, also called Point of Interest( POI), and route search. Smartphones with Tizen also enable router-lessWLAN access with WiFi Direct.
