Super WiFi

Super-WiFi is a concept for wireless Internet access presented by the Federal Communications Commission( FCC). Unlike the widely used WiFi, Super-WiFi can bridge a distance range of 100 km and transmit data rates of 18 Mbps.

Super-WiFi operates in the sub- gigahertz range below 1 GHz and uses white spacefrequencies between 54 MHz and 862 MHz. In contrast to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz of WLANs, these frequencies have lower free- space attenuation, can pass through walls and therefore have a much larger propagation range. White spaces are already used in Wireless Regional Area Network(WRAN) according to IEEE 802.22, which is why this standard was proposed as the basis for Super-WiFi.

Super-WiFi is to be established as a radio technology in the last mile, operated by Internet and mobile network operators. Critical factors seem to be the interference that could occur due to the simultaneous use of the frequency range for TV signals, which could affect the transmission quality.
