Sorenson codec

The Sorenson codec, also known as the Sorenson video codec, is a video codec developed by Sorenson Media and used in Apple's Quicktime, Adobe's Flashplayer, and the movie player, MPlayer, for Unix and Linux.

The first version of the Sorenson codec was introduced in 1998, followed by further developments in 1999, 2001 and 2004. The specifications of the codec have not been published. However, it is known that the Sorenson codec is based on H.264 and supports FFmpeg, which allows the videos to be played on all platforms that support FFmpeg. The newer versions are said to be based on H.263.
