SharePoint

SharePoint brings together a range of web products from Microsoft. They enable the creation of web portals for companies, but also the coordination of internal business processes. The two core components of SharePoint are the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server(MOSS) and the Windows SharePoint Services(WSS).

The Office SharePoint Server is a server application within the Microsoft Office system world and enables the production of websites for content presentation, data management and business intelligence( BI) within the company. The results can be a public corporate portal, but also a coordination platform for internal projects and databases. The reports and lists required for this can also be created from external data sources, including business applications from SAP or Microsoft Server, but also the application programs from Microsoft Office.

The Office SharePoint Server is based on Microsoft SharePoint Services and enables the customization and management of central lists, libraries, blogs and wikis. SharePoint Services provides the familiar "look and feel" for SharePoint Server output. Users can use site templates for collaboration, synchronized documents, contacts, tasks and calendars from Microsoft Outlook. As in a social network, information about personal qualifications and experience can also be published to build project teams of the right people.

Office SharePoint Server also enables the management of documents, records and Web content, taking into account metadata, workflows and content types. A search center initiates queries from a central location and presents results to the requestor. The queries can take place in complete documents or as a limited search in specific languages or files. To accelerate business processes, Office SharePoint Server's InfoPath Forms also provide browser-enabled form templates for the most widely used workflows with common business processes.

Unstructured data from multiple sources can be aggregated for analysis and also published to the Web. For data mining, Office SharePoint Server also connects to applications such as SAP or Microsoft SQL Server. Operational Key Performance Indicators( KPI) provide visually presented information about the progress made in achieving a goal.
