SWDM alliance

The SWDM Alliance is an association of several companies that wants to establish Short Wave Division Multiplexing (SWDM) as a cost-effective technology for multi- channel transmission on duplex multimode fibers at data rates of 40 Gbit/s.

The 40 Gigabit Ethernet promoted by the SWDM Alliance works with four wavelengths on which 10 Gbit/s are transmitted each. The transmission rate of 100 Gbit/s, which is still supported, is also based on four wavelengths over which 25 Gbit/s are transmitted. The bridgeable distances are 100 m and 300 m with multimode fibers of the OM class Wideband OM4. The SWDM bridging system uses a VCSEL laser with a low power of 1.5 W.
