SCSI parallel interface (SPI)

SCSI Parallel Interface( SPI) is another name for SCSI-3, which defines the features of the Small ComputerSystem Interface (SCSI) parallel interface.

There are several versions of SCSI Parallel Interface, each of which defines its own features and data transfer rates. In some cases, other organizations besides ANSI are involved in document creation, such as Fibre Channel's Technical Committee, T11. With the many versions labeled SPI, SPI-2, SPI-3, etc., it can be assumed that a higher version number indicates better performance and functionality.

SPI-2 corresponds to Fast-40 or Ultra-2-SCSI, SPI-3 to Ultra-3-SCSI or Ultra-160-SCSI, SPI-4 to Ultra-320-SCSI, and SPI-5 to Ultra-640-SCSI.
