SATA express (SATAe)

SATA Express(SATAe) is an interface for solid-state drives( SSD) with a high data rate. It is a further development of SATA 6 with a data rate of 6 Gbit/s and can work with this or with the transmission technology of PCI Express( PCIe).

The SATA Express transfers data via PCIe over one, two or four lanes with a data transfer rate of 1 GB/s per lane. With four lanes, this results in data transfer rates of 4 GB/s, which must, however, be supported by the solid state drives (SSD) and the chipsets. A wider plug is used as the connector. Normal SATA connectors can also be plugged into the SATA Express sockets. Communication takes place via the Advanced HostController Interface( AHCI) or via Non-Volatile Memory Express( NVMe). Via NVMe, which replaces AHCI, many commands can be transmitted to the solid-state drive in parallel.
