PDN gateway (SAE) (PGW)

The PDNGateway (PGW) is a network component in the Evolved Packet Core( EPC), the core structure of the System Architecture Evolution( SAE) in LTE networks.

The PDN Gateway connects the subscriber device to 2nd and 3rd generation mobile networks( 2G and 3G), external packet switching networks, or the Internet, and is the endpoint for data traffic to and from the subscriber device. A subscriber device can be connected to multiple PDN Gateways simultaneously and access multiple external networks.

Functionally, the PDN Gatewaychecks policies, it has packet filters for each subscriber, it supports Policy Control and Charging( PCC) charging and packet screening.
