Mobitex

Mobitex is a cellular mobile communications system developed by Ericsson for pure data radio and indoor applications.

The packet-switched mobile communications network was operated in Germany by GfD, Gesellschaft für Datenfunk GmbH, and was discontinued in 1996 after only a short period of operation.

The Mobitex network operated in transmit mode between 426.6375 MHz and 427.3625 MHz and in receive mode between 416.6375 MHz and 417.3625 MHz. The channel sp acing was 12.5 kHz, and the minimum outdoor coverage level was -109 dBm. Transmission was digital on packet-oriented dial-up links with transparent full- duplex data channels. The data transmission ratewas 9.6 kbit/s. The air interfacedata rate was 8 kbit/s, and the guaranteed error rate was less than `10^-8`.
