Microsoft point to point encryption (MPPE)

The Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption Protocol (MPPE) is used to encrypt the Point to Point Tunneling Protocol(PPTP).

For this purpose, the MPPE protocol offers a key length of 40 bits as the international version and a key length of 128 bits as the U.S. version, which uses RSA 4 Stream Cipher( RC4) data encoding. With the 128-bit key, a 64-bit portion of the key is changed for each new session to increase security.

MPPE ensures the integrity of data packets between the RAS client, remote access service, and RAS server or tunnel server. This encryption can be used when IP Security Protocol( IPsec) is not available.
