LocalTalk

LocalTalk is the data link interface for Appletalk located on layer 2 of the OSI reference model and thus defines the lower two layers, the physical layer and the link layer.

LocalTalk uses CSMA/ CA as the access method and a transmission speed of 230.4 kbit/s. The networking concept was based on shielded TP cables and supported 256 stations in the first version, which are interconnected in a similar way to daisy chaining. The stations are connected to the network via special LocalTalk boxes, which are comparable to transceivers. From the transceiver box it goes to the serial port of the MacIntosh with the RS-422A interface
