The LWIP concept is about the use of Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile radio in license-free frequency bands ofWLANs.
LTE WLAN Radio Level Integration with IPsecTunnel (LWIP) is a feature of 3GPP Release 13, for the optimal integration of WLANs into LTE access networks. The current usage aims at the transmission of data efficiently using load balancing between LTE and WiFi with aggregation and the PDCP protocol.
LWIP is a similar concept to LTE-WLAN Aggregation (LWA), both of which use license-free WLAN frequency bands. The difference is that LWA aggregation performs carrier aggregation, whereas LWIP performs aggregation or switching between LTE and WiFi.
