The Ka-band is a frequency band used in satellite communications and WLANs.

Frequency and wavelength range according to IEEE 521 (1984).

Frequency and wavelength range according to IEEE 521 (1984).

The Ka-band is located above the K-band in terms of frequency and lies in the frequency range between 26.5 GHz and 40 GHz. It operates with millimeter waves. The wavelength range is between 1.1 cm and 0.75 cm.

In satellite communications, the Ka-band is used in the uplink between 27.5 GHz and 31 GHz and beyond in the frequency range between 33 GHz and 36 GHz; the downlink takes place in the Ku-band and in the K-band between 17.7 GHz and 21.2 GHz. GEO satellites operating in the Ka band achieve data rates of up to 50 Mbit/s in the downlink.
