Java plug-in

The Java plug-in technology is part of the Java Runtime Environment ( JRE) and enables the connection of a Java Virtual Machine ( JVM) with a browser. This enables the browser to execute applets loaded from the Internet.

This functionality belongs to the area of software distribution ( deployment). Java Web Start can be used to distribute Java programs other than applets over the Internet.
