Jini is an intelligent network architecture from Sun Microsystems for universal networking of general peripheral devices in industry and household, such as digital cameras and video cameras, printers, scanners, control computers, televisions, alarm systems
, kitchen appliances, etc.Jini is based on Java
andoffers plug-and-play (PNP) for all peripheral devices, without modification of the programs. Jini uses the IP protocol and uses the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to statically or dynamically set IP addresses. Jini-based systems must support the Unicast TCP and Multicast UDP ( Unicast Discovery Protocol) protocols
and provide their own HTTP server through which the Java bytecodes are distributed. Jini is the counterpart to Microsoft's, Universal Plug-and-Play (UPP), and Hewlett Packard's Chaiappliance Plug-and-Play developments.
