Internet society (ISOC)

The Internet Society (ISOC) is an Internet society founded in 1991 by the Corporation for National Research Institute (CNRI), EDUCOM, Réseaux Associés pour la Recherche Européen ( RARE) and the Internet Architecture Board( IAB) to coordinate the international development of the Internet. ISOC is the umbrella organization of all Internet organizations, and thus the highest institution for the development of the Internet.

ISOC's responsibilities include the development of the Internet and the coordination of international activities, technology and application aspects, the promotion of information exchange among network users, coordination among service providers, the promotion of fair competition and constructive cooperation among service providers, and the expansion of the Internet's reach. In addition, the control of the growth, development, maintenance and dissemination of standards, promotion and management of the Internet.

ISOC is composed of the Internet Engineering Steering Group( IESG) and the Internet Research Steering Group( IRSG), which submit their work to the Internet Architecture Board (IAB).

A quarterly publication, Internet Society News,provides information about the activities of the ISOC organizations. Once a year, ISOC members meet for an annual conference, INET.
