Internet of medical things (IoMT)

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is an Internet for telemedicine. It consists of medical devices and applications connected to a cloud or to healthcare IT systems via the Internet of Things( IoT). The medical devices are supported by WiFi and are suitable for machine-to-machine( M2M) communication; an enabling technology for IoMT.

There are various medical measurement devices for telemonitoring that can be used at home, on-site at the hospital or in the doctor's office. These include long-term monitoring of heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure, asthma inhalations or measurement of blood sugar via tear fluid. The measured values are recorded during telemonitoring or remote patient monitoring and transmitted to a clinic or doctor's office. The measured values can be recorded via sensors connected via near- field communication( NFC) or also by means of RFID tags.

Certain body values can also be recorded via smart wearables.
