Internet content adaption protocol (ICAP)
The Internet Content Adaption Protocol (ICAP) was developed by the ICAP Forum and proposed to the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF) for standardization.
The ICAP protocol is part of an architecture that improves the distribution and caching of Web content in Content Delivery Networks( CDN). It is an open protocol that establishes communication between edge devices such as Web caches or content delivery servers and application servers.
The ICAP client software forwards HTTP messages to a server. There, they are adapted to have the appropriate format for the respective device. All transactions are based on HTTP.
