The InternetCacheProtocol (ICP), which is described in RFC 2186, allows data to be cached and evaluated according to its content. The ICP protocol, which was developed with HTTP, only requires the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) to describe the cached content. This protocol is replaced by the Hypertext Caching Protocol (HTCP).
