IT8 international test (IT8)

The IT8 color template takes its name from the committee of the same name that develops standards for the exchange of graphic programs. IT8 stands for "International Test 8" and is a standardized color reference template that is used to calibrate and characterize color processing devices such as scanners, monitors, printers, and so on. The color reference template is comparable to a test image with numerous standardized color areas.

The IT8 color chart is available in printed form as a supervisory template, as a slide and as a file. It is used for measuring color corrections. IT8 color charts consist of color patches with the primary colors, secondary colors and mixed colors that are problematic to capture and display. For visual control, such a color chart contains a portrait photo.

Calibration software is used to compare the IT8 reference template stored in the computer with the colors determined during scanning. From the referenced and scanned IT8 colors, a device-specific color profile is created for the scanner as an ICC color profile. This color profile is only used for the one scanner, not for similar models.
