IP500 standard

IP500 is an IoTstandard for radio communication in commercial buildings. This IP500 Alliance standard is based on known protocols and standards for WLANs, including the IPv6protocol and IPsec, and uses the proven IEEE standard802.15.4 and the low-power wireless personalarea network, 6LoWPAN, as its procedures. In terms of radio technology, IP500 is designed for the 2.4 GHzfrequency range, which is also used by most WLANs, WiFi and Bluetooth. To make the radio transmissioninterference-free, IP500 works with a dual-band method and can also transmit in the sub-gigahertz range at 900 MHz.In this range, the range is further than in the 2.4 GHz range due to the lower free-spaceattenuation, but the usable frequency bands can vary from region to region. The technical challenges to be overcome in a Wireless Internet of Things(WIoT) platform include low latency between sensors and actuators, high data rate and range, preferably with an extremely low energy overhead. Also required is high transmission security with key management, a robust mesh network, energy management and a battery management system, and last but not least, product interoperability. Transmission security is provided by 128-bitAES encryption. The IP500 layer model The layer model of IP500 consists of seven layers, like the OSI reference model. All layers are functionally occupied. For example, the physical layer of the WPAN activities specified by the IEEE 802.15.4
