IP device control (IPDC)

IP Device Control(IPDC) is used to connect circuit-switched telephone networks( PSTN) with packet-switched IP networks.

The IPDC protocol is one of the first gateway protocols for Internet telephony and, in conjunction with the Simple Gateway Control Protocol( SGCP), forms the basis for the Media Gateway Control Protocol( MGCP) and for H.248. The IPDC protocol controls and manages network components operating at the edge of the network, such as Media Gateway Controllers( MGC) for VoIP.

The protocol specifications of IPDC include signaling within the IP network, media gateway management( MGW), media control, and connection control within media gateways.
