IP convergence
In general, convergence is understood as the merging of communication forms with different technology on one network. In terms of IP convergence, it means bringing together two worlds on one network: The world of voice communication and the world of data communication united on one IP network: The classic TDM-based networks united with the IP-based networks.
The migration ofvoice and data on one IP network offers advantages in terms of the many IP-based applications such as VoIP, computer telephony integration( CTI), video-over-IP and others, the dynamic development of network resources, which includes the possibilities of real-time communication for voice and video in addition to high-speed data transmission, and the possibility of joint management. IP convergence creates the conditions for a holistic, service-oriented approach to information processing. A well-known example of IP convergence is triple play.
In such an open architecture, the advantages of the classic telephone network, such as the high quality and reliability of voice transmission and the extensive performance features, are adapted to the IP world.
