IEEE 802.24

The IEEE 802.24 working group deals with smart grid communication.

This working group is called "Smart Grid Technical Advisory Group" and has the task to bring the activities of IEEE 802 into the Smart Grid developments. It maintains contact with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and standardization bodies and is intended to answer questions about smart grid applications and promote the use of 802 standards.

In 802.24, the assumption is that 802 standards will be incorporated into smart grid communications in power generation, storage, distribution, and management.
