IB4X cable

The IB4X cable is called a twinaxial cable and is used in Infiniband. The Ethernet working group802.3ak uses the same cable under the designation CX4 in 10 Gigabit Ethernet( 10GbE) for the 10GbE interface10GBase-CX4. It is an 8-pair cable whose 16 wires have American wire gauge( AWG) 24.

The IB4X or CX4 cable features insertion loss of less than 10 dB up to frequencies of 1.25 GHz, as well as the lowest propagation delay, latency and return loss. It has an impedance of 95 ohms or 155 ohms and a maximum length of 15 m.

The design shows two separately shielded wire pairs in the center, which also have a common shield surrounded by another six wire pairs. All wire pairs are surrounded by an overall shield. The minimum radius of curvature is 5 cm.

The IB4X connector is similar to the SCSI ribbon connector, but has a smaller pitch. For locking, the IB4X connector uses a jack latch or screw lock.Alternatives to the IB4X connector are the SFF-8470 connector or Fujitsu's microGiGaCN connector designed for high-speed and high- performance applications.
