The frequency division covers 2 GHz in the frequency range between 2 GHz and 10 GHz. Thus, the E/ F band lies between 2 GHz and 4 GHz, the G band between 4 GHz and 6 GHz, the H band between 6 GHz and 8 GHz, and finally the I band between 8 GHz and 10 GHz. It covers part of the frequency range that is referred to as X-band in traditional nomenclature( IEEE).

The I-band and the J-band above it are used for radar applications, also known as X-radar or Ku-radar.
