Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) are clinical decision support systems that physicians and nurses use to improve patient care.

Physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals use CDS systems to establish a diagnosis and verify improvement in the final outcome. In doing so, CDSS systems analyze patient-related data and use this data to optimize nurses' workflows and create care plans.

Data analysis draws on the medical histories of many patients, using data mining to look for predictable patterns. From these patterns, conclusions can be drawn about disease symptoms, diagnoses, drug tolerances, interactions and healing processes.
