Freenet

Freenet is a frequency band for short-range radio that can be used by the general public without registration or license. However, there is also an Internet provider of the same name.

As a toll-free radiotelephone service, Freenet belongs to the non-public land mobile radio(nömL) and uses the frequency range around 149 MHz that was previously used by the B- network. Freenet consists of only three channels with a channel spacing of 12.5 kHz, in which radio equipment with a transmission power of 500 mW may be operated. Frequencymodulation must be used as the modulation method in Freenet. The Freenet band is mainly used by companies for professional radio. The bridgeable distances are between 2 km and 10 km.

Freenet's frequency range is 149.0250 MHz for channel 01, 149.0375 MHz for channel 02 and 149.0500 MHz for channel 03. The Federal Network Agency has extended Freenet's period of use from 2005 to the end of 2025.
