FLIC data format

The FLIC file format is an animation format from Autodesk. It allows you to create animations from a sequence of static GIF files. The FLIC files can be played with Autodesk Animator; also with Video for Windows from Microsoft. FLIC files have up to 256 colors, but do not support audio.

The FLIC file format is hierarchically structured into chunks, which consist of a fixed part and a variable part. The fixed chunk part contains the information about the type and size of the chunk. The advantage of the chunk hierarchy is the addition of more chunks without affecting the playback functionality. When playing the FLIC files with Autodesk Animator, the animations or video sequences can be played forward, backward, or as a single frame, just as with the video recorder.
