FDDI station

To implement the FDDI topology, Station Management allows various configurations of FDDI stations.

Basically, a distinction is made between two classes, which result from a connection of the stations to the primary ring or the secondary ring. A further classification allows the FDDI stations to be equipped with media access methods( MAC), resulting in the following breakdown:

  • Stations with a connection to both rings and a MAC component: Single MAC Dual Attachment Station(SMDAS).
  • Stations with one connection to both rings and two MAC components: Dual MAC Dual Attachment Station( DM DAS).
  • Stations with only one connection to the primary ring with MAC component: Single Attachment Station( SAS).
  • Concentrator with one connection to both rings (MAC optional): Dual Attachment Concentrator( DAC).
  • Concentrator with only one connection to the primary ring (MAC optional): Single Attachment Concentrator( SAC).
